Happy New Year!

This week, I want to share with you a poem by Sheenagh Pugh from November 2020:

Sometimes things don’t go, after all,
from bad to worse. Some years, muscadel
faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don’t fail.
Sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war,
elect an honest man, decide they care
enough, that they can’t leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best intentions do not go
amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow
that seemed hard frozen; may it happen for you.

Play Pandemic!

We have a surprising number of cooperative games in our library—games where the players are competing against the game itself, and win or lose together. I recently posted a photo to my Instagram of most of them and it looks like we have at least 21!

Pandemic is one of the older ones and much-beloved by the gaming community. Here, players take on fighting four diseases that are rapidly expanding across the globe, working together to minimize the damage while searching for cures. Pandemic is famous for being hard to win, but you’ll have a great time trying! Bring some friends or family for dinner and see if you can save the world!
