One of our core values at Free Parking is Team Mentality. Matt describes it this way: “We win together. We lose together. We advocate for the individual and the whole.” It reminds me of a song I learned recently by Josh Blaine, “No one is getting left behind this time; we get there together or we never get there at all.”

Humans are a social species, and not just because we like to go get a drink with friends from time to time. We are a social species in that we need each other, we rely on each other, we literally waste away without the community around us. At Free Parking, we do our best to—and sometimes fail at—work in the space as a team. There are definitely times when one of us will drop the ball or simply not have the energy one day, but others can pick it up knowing that they will be in the same space one day. No one person is the best or expendable, all of us have skills, and we try to create a welcoming space for everyone who comes in the door.
