Poetry of Presence

Don’t Hesitate
Mary Oliver

If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don't hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed
or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that's often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

Play racing games!

In honor of the Kentucky Derby, come play a game all about racing to the finish. (And don’t listen to Steven when he says even Catan is a racing game because you’re racing to 10 points—it’s go to have a path to follow, not just being first to do something.)

We’ve got classic races like Camel Up and Candy Land along with newer, maybe odder entries like Magic Maze and Tsuro. Alice has brought in a handful from her home collection like the Great American Mail Race and Magical Athlete—you don’t want to miss it!

Try our Mint Julep!

It’s Derby season, and this Saturday we’ve got our very own Mint Julep all day. Bourbon, simple syrup, and muddled mint—it’s simple, it’s classic, it’s delicious. Come by with some friends to watch the Derby, play a racing game, and have a Julep or two!

Mark your calendars!

Have you seen our green flags? They’re literal green flags that you can put on your table. The idea is, if you’re open to having someone you don’t know sit with you—so you can make new game friends, so you can play bigger games, etc.—ask for one of our green flags. And if you ever see one on a table, know that you are welcome to sit there yourself. The green flags are a cheery way to say, “Come on over, friend!”
