May the Fourth

Happy Star Wars Day, friends!

(For the uninitiated, the date is May 4, which folks have noticed sounds like “May the fourth be with you.” An excellent reason to celebrate!)

I have unironically loved Star Wars since I was a wee child. I wore Leia space buns when I had long hair. I have argued about the correct order in which to watch the movies—4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, in case you’re wondering and yes I skipped 1 and 9, change my mind…).

And one of the things I love most about Star Wars is how no one gets to where they are alone. It’s true that Luke has a special connection to the Force that he uses to destroy the Death Star, but he wouldn’t have been able to without Obi-Wan protecting him, his aunt and uncle raising him well, Yoda teaching him, and indeed the Force itself guiding him. Even knowing precisely where the weak point was came through Leia and through Andor and his team. And of course, the rebellion against a cruel Empire was a massive group effort spanning decades and planets, comprising prisoners working in munitions factories all the way up to the rich and powerful Mon Mothma risking everything to bankroll the rebels. None of them did their work alone, and neither do we. We have so many people who raised and cared for us as we grew, so many people around us still we can call upon.

This is the way.

Play Star-Wars-adjacent games!

Who doesn’t love a Star War? And there are so many games based on planetary exploration, conflict, development, transportation, and…trick-taking?

  • Star Realms is a classic deck-building game

  • Galaxy Trucker is a fast-paced and silly space-ship building (and destroying!) game

  • Twilight Inscription is a roll-and-write, like Three Sisters, but space!

  • Stellar is, if I may, a stellar two-player game of tableau-building and efficiency puzzling

  • Planet Unknown has a charming lazy susan housing all the Tetris-like pieces that’s part of the game play

  • The Crew is a cooperative trick-taking game that gets harder the more rounds you play

And we have so many more than are in this photo! Celebrate Star Wars Day in style with one of our special space cocktails and a game of space adventure!

Sunday only:
Try our special Bantha Milk or our BY Shooter!

In Star Wars: A New Hope, Luke sits down to breakfast with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, including a tall, nutritious glass of blue milk. Our version is perhaps less nutritious, but more delicious! Creme of coconut, lime and pineapple juices, coconut rum, cream, and blue curacao will give you a summer-y vibe while you play a round of Starship Catan.

Baby Yoda is everyone’s favorite superpowered orphan and now possibly your favorite shot special at Free Parking. Try the BY Shooter: vodka, sour mix, and melon liqueur
